First off, I would like to give huge props to Popcorn, Toast, Matt M., Kyle A, Parker N, Alamat, and my 2 new friends, John and Rick that I met last Sat/Sun. Every one did a tremendous job executing what needed to be done for the day. All and all, coming in 3rd for all time points for Outpost was quite an accomplishment for the night.
The day started off unlike any other event at EAG. I was processed and mission briefed along with My XO, John Kraft, I commanded the group. After which, rules and safety was briefed with all of my men. After some quick PR pics, some of us climbed into the Humvee and took a ride into the EAG compound. A compound we were all eager to protect.
Once we set up our CCP and personally prepped ourselves for what was to come, I took the opportunity to give out some much needed advice to my brothers on Bravo which ran Patrol first. From the horn blow, every one was on guard. The Hummer rolled out and Alpha stayed to defend. Alpha and Bravo swapped every half hour so time was of the essence to collect the drops. Every one had their jobs. The First evolution was fully completed, every drop was picked up and set in their designated areas. Our drops consisted of 2 fuel drums, 2 ammo boxes, and a food crate. The Humvee was excellent for the transport and the men did a great job keeping the vehicle mobile by keeping Esog from blowing it up. This did not mean that Esog did not put up a hard fight.
I knew the second evolution was going to be tougher. The drops were better covered by Esog and the compound was constantly attacked from all corners. However, my men went above and beyond and pushed on to gather the rest of the drops. By the nights end, we were able to salvage a few fuel drums after after our perimeter was broken. Our Ammo supply was blown up, but we still had the cans from the very last drop that we captured and secured 5 minutes before games end. We successfully secured all but 2 food crates. The Com Tower was destroyed after the first patrol in the second evolution.
I cannot explain the feelings this night op brings. Pitch black field, sounds of footsteps, quite chatter mixed with suppressive fire with the occasional pyrotechnic display. This game was intense. The intensity never dropped. Esog kept us busy and on our toes for the entire op. The minimal attendance did not discourage any one. It made every one work harder to complete our objectives and goals. Every one worked as one, every one did their part. I was proud to lead the group of Outpost 2012.
